Šípkari is a Slovak-Czech comedy that pushes the boundaries of humour, action and absurd situations. The film was shot at various locations across Slovakia, with part of the production also taking place in the Czech Republic.

The project has been in development since 2017. During the preparation process, the filmmakers visited Košice and the Košice Region every year. In addition to scouting suitable locations, they explored ways to incorporate the region’s surroundings into the film’s storyline as effectively as possible. The production ultimately spent four shooting days in the Košice Region. Approximately 20% of the film’s story takes place in the Košice Region. Producer Daniel Dangl was personally present throughout the entire shoot and actively contributed to bringing the film to life.

Sipkari is a tragicomic story about friendship, believing in a plan, and the fine line between genius and madness. Pepé, a charismatic man in his forties with a troubled past, is given one last chance after being released from prison. What appears to be a simple plan brings together the world of small-town pubs, big dreams, underworld pressure and unpredictable people.

The film premiered in Slovak cinemas on 15 October 2026.
